SAFF!

I know you have all been waiting with baited breath for my pictures from SAFF. So, here they are! I don't know why but it seems that my camera is taking really crappy pictures lately so - sorry about that.

I, of course, had to go and buy some yarn from Miss Babs. She had some really cute patterns for a baby dress and some baby booties so I bought those and some happy looking green yarn to make the dress with.


Then I came across this scrumptious mohair/merino yarn in Jen's booth that I thought about all weekend and finally decided that I could not live without it. I have no idea what I am going to do with this yet but I love it! One skein is grey with subtle yellows and pinks and the other skein is grey. I'm thinking a shawl maybe. Any suggestions? I think I have about 1000 yards all together.


Oh, and apparently I have a bag addiction that I was unaware of. We bought a few bags from Jen - some for me and some for presents - and then KateyJ gave me a few of her bags that she had made! 2 of those have already been gifted! Needless to say, we came away with a bunch of really cute project bags!


And, I found some buttons for the sweater I am working on. I have finished the back and the front and I am currently working on the sleeves.


Saturday night we went to dinner at the party cabin which was loads of fun even though Jen and I were dog tired!

Hi!

Yeah, ummmmm - hi. Remember me? Seriously, I had all good intentions of blogging on Monday but it just never seemed to happen. I do have a few pictures from SAFF for you - HOWEVER - the pictures are on my computer in Blue Ridge and I am in Atlanta! So - no pictures for you today.

We had a REALLY fun time at SAFF even though it was exhausting. We didn't have nearly enough stuff to fill up our usual space this time so it was really great that the Fleury's shared a space with us. That definitely made it more fun too!

I should have taken way more pictures. I didn't take ANY pictures in the sales arena! I know, bad blogger. We had a good time and it is always great to see our friends that we only get to see once or twice a year.

We will be going to Stitiches South but we won't really have a booth. Kate (of Dragonfly Fibers) is going to take over our booth space and sell our bowls. AND of course, we will have the famous Scalini's dinner again which we always look forward to! We'll start the signups for that in January.

I'll get some pictures posted for everyone tomorrow. Wayne and I are looking forward to our upcoming weekend of doing NOTHING for a change!! We haven't had a weekend without plans in months it seems so - YAY!!

PS - Why does blogger take out my spaces between paragraphs sometimes?? This is annoying.......

Some Mascot!

For those of you who are not familiar with Emory, we have a rather unusual mascot. Our mascot is a skeleton named Dooley! Personally, I love that our school mascot is a skeleton! He represents the spirit of Emory. Each year, no one knows who Dooley is except for his pallbearers, who accompany him everywhere. In the homecoming parade we spotted the pallbearers.

Of course I have to give a shout out to Emory for it's commitment of respect to everyone. This is one of the reasons that I LOVE this university!!! This is the Emory Pride float in the parade.

Emory is alternatively known as "Coca-cola University" because we have had so much funding and support from Coke (which originated in Atlanta if you didn't know). MANY of the homecoming floats had Coke themes as a tribute to one of our main benefactors!!! Emory also heavily supports sustainability and recycling - YAY!!!!

Emory Office

I haven't told you all that I actually have an office at Emory. This is probably because there is absolutely nothing in it. Not even a pen! I don't really see a need to use it very often so I haven't put anything in it. However, when we went for the Indigo Girls concert, it was an ideal location to store our stuff and our clothes so that we didn't have to lug a bunch of crap around!

While we were in there, Wayne found a nurse's cap. I have no idea who this belongs to or where it came from. Of course, he had to try it on though!! :)

Time Flies.............

Ya know.................I'm tellin' ya - time flies! I don't even know what happens to the weeks lately! We have been busy with life in general and getting ready for SAFF!!!!

I never did finish telling you about homecoming weekend at Emory. One of the things we did was go tour the new School of Public Health, which is MUCH nicer than the School of Public Health that I graduated from!!! One of the really cool things is on the top floor balcony. You have a pretty cool view of Atlanta from the 10th story!

This is the massive CDC complex which is right next to the School of Public Health and the School of Nursing. This is only a small, small portion.


Over here you can see Children's Healthcare of Atlanta where I have students one day a week! The building that the sign is on is the old building. We now have a new, fancier building in addition to this one behind the old building.

We didn't stay for the dinner because we were so tired after the concert and because we had to get back to the pets. It was a fun weekend though and I'm glad we stayed for it!

Indigo Girls!

The reason that we were in Atlanta for such an extended period of time this past week was because we stayed over the weekend for Emory Homecoming. Normally, I'm not really interested in events such as this too much. However, this year, the Indigo Girls were playing a free concert on the field for Emory students and alums since they are both alumni themselves!! So, of course we had to go. Both of them are very connected with Emory.

We got there early and were able to catch Emily and Amy doing their sound checks. It was basically just us on the field so we got to talk with them just a bit so that was fun. Since we were there so early we had seats right up front which was great! They are on the list of my favorite musicians, not only because I love their music but because I really respect their leadership in the community and the passion for respect and diversity that they promote and share. I think these are things that Emory is really good at also, which is why I love being there and working there and why I loved going to school there! Emory is a very "conscious" university and definitely embraces diversity.

During the concert I saw Amy's brother, Larry, so I went up to talk with him. He is an MD at Emory and several years ago I did a clinical rotation with him when I was working on my FNP degree. He is a nice guy and a really great MD. I learned a lot from him. Ironically, Amy's sister, Laura, lives across the street from my mom! So, I knew her as well through a friend.

Anyway, the concert was great!!! It was just the two of them with their instruments which is absolutely my favorite way to hear them. They really don't need anything else! We were able to snap a few pictures for ya!
