What the heck was THAT?

So, Wayne and I went on our usual morning walk last Saturday morning (I know, I know - I'm kinda late on posting about this but hey, you don't read this blog for the latest amazing news, right?). It was about 9AM and we were about halfway into the walk when we heard this huge, loud rumbling noise. Of course our first thought was "Uh oh - thunder and we are about to get soaked". That would not be any surprise at all since that had just happened to us the day before. Halfway though our walk it started pouring and we did about 3/4 of our walk soaking wet! No problem though - at least it was warm.

But, the rumbling kept on and kept on for like 15-20 seconds. Weird, right? So our next very logical thought was explosion in downtown Blue Ridge! Right. I don't think there is a single building over 2 stories in the whole town so the idea of a building imploding in downtown was totally not likely at all. Heavy equipment something or another? I dunno.

A few minutes later we ran into a friend of ours who was on the phone with his wife. His wife was completely freaked out and called her husband because the whole house had started shaking. AH HA!!! EARTHQUAKE! Unlikely in this area but certainly possible. We had one about 10 years ago or so that definitely shook our house.

We came home and looked up information on the USGS website. Sure enough, there was a 3.2 earthquake recorded in Ducktown, NC which is about 15 miles from our house. It wasn't strong enough to cause any damage anywhere really but definitely enough to wake us all up!

I called my dad to tell him and he promptly accused me of drinking moonshine too early in the morning. For the record mom, I called you too but you weren't home!! Our neighbor was out picking squash and tomatoes from her garden at the time and all her squash and tomatoes rolled down the hill towards the pond!!

Anyway, I know this isn't at all exciting for all you west coasters out there but around here a 3.2 earthquake is big news! HERE is the link to the story in our local paper - Cristi I totally think you should move to Turtletown!! :)

Here is the view that our new chickens will have from their coop - the pond on one side and the creek on the other. I think they shall be happy once they arrive.

I started 2 new knitting projects since I was waiting for my needles to get here to finish the FLS. Of course, now they are here and so I have 3 projects in the works! I'll show you some pictures tomorrow.
