I was gonna say the same thing about the coccoon. It looks like a tomato hornworm coccoon that will emerge as a big adult moth to lay more hornworm eggs on your tomato plants and result in big ugly green hornworms consuming your garden bounty.I feed my hornworms to the chickens when I find them. Never found a coccoon.
Have you checked out the kind of new system called Everfresh? It's kind of a chemical free system, we use it as we all have sensitive skin and allergies to chemicals. what is nice is no need to shower afterwards and when we clean it we can let the water run right into the back yard with no worries. Cool pod! i would think butterfly.
I Googled tomato hornworm cocoon as soon as I saw the pic you posted, and that's definitely what your hubby found. Eek! (I'm not so much a fan of the creepy crawlies if you can't tell.) ;)
I'm not EVEN going to ask about how the hot tub got like that. The cocoon thing looks a little "Silence of the Lambs". Tell Mr. Man I am patiently waiting for seat measurements to engage in cushion making.
I am married to my very best friend and have been since April of 2005. We have 4 kids - Barbara - 38, Brogan - 30, Ian - 24 and Nathan - 19. We love to do outdoor stuff (when it's WARM) and we are dedicated to environmental causes. I love knitting and crocheting and my husband is a graphic artist/web design guru and has helped me get my knitting/crochet website up and running. www.knitwitch.com

Did you put laundry detergent in the hot tub? :)
That looks like a tomato hornworm. Birds love them.
Wow!
What happened with the hot tub?
It got a little "over chemicalized"!!
Brittany,
If I've told you once, I've told you a million times, you should not bathe Mr. Man, the fish or the dogs in the hot tub. Geeez!
Your clean as a whistle Mom

So you weren't going for a bubble bath in the hot tub?
