This is the first thing I have knit (other than swatches) with my own hand dyed yarn. This is colorway "Harvest Moon" in a yarn that I'm not planning on carrying right now. However, I do have the same colorway in a super soft yummy sock yarn. The pattern is my own and I will eventually get around to writing it down.
Hey, I know this can't be an extreemly novel idea but, do any of you do this?
Slip stitch the bottom of the feet on your socks?? I have never done this before but it suddenly occured to me that I should see how it feels. Mr. Man wears through socks like crazy and I thought this might help create a little more durable foot on the future socks that I knit for him. Thoughts?
I am so used to knitting socks for Wayne that I am amazed at how fast this sock is going because it is so much smaller! You know what they say about men with big feet.....................that's right......it takes forever to knit them socks!! :)
We have had a TON of rain here over the past 24 hours. Look at this picture of the water from our creek rushing over the bridge!!

Wow! That's a lot of water!
I wonder about slipped stitches on the ball of the foot. It seems that's the part of the sock that gets the most stress, but I'm not convinced that slipped stitches create a more durable fabric. It's just that much less yarn to wear through. On the other hand, Cat Bordhi uses it on her heels, and I know I've seen some socks done by my friend Jane that way. I bet there's a scientific answer for this.
That's a very pretty orange. I haven't done slip stitches on the bottom of any of my socks so I don't know how they will hold up. And oh my, yes you are getting a lot of rain!
good for you on the socks! nice colorway as well. Lol, your crick is fast turning into a brook!
Wow, and we have had snow since last night. The news reported 11 inches, and that was at 2:00.
Very nice socks in a colorway meant for October :)
I use a slip-stitch heel for Kid and Manly socks, for my own socks, I prefer a short-row heel (but I'm far nicer to my socks and shoes than DH or DDs!). I have used an additional, thin re-enforcing thread carried along with the yarn for socks to help with wear as well. Let us know how he likes wearing these! as it could be a major break-through in "manly sock knitting"!! thanks, Super-Knit-witch :)
I love that colorway- how does the sole feel?
Just wanted to say that I enjoy your instructional videos. They've been really helpful. googled and found your site n blog. Thanx! :)
