Kids are Weird

My son and his girlfriend were here last weekend. I had a couple of gems that I thought I might share with you.

My son: Check out this cool new flashlight I got!! It has this "weapon feature" at the end of it! (Note: my son is 19 not 9 and the "weapon feature" is a steel scalloped edging)
Me: Wow.
My son: Yeah - it's for self-defense of myself.
Me: Blank stare

My son's GF (while we were watching the top 100 countdown of all-time greatest rock songs): What?? They are saying "Done Dirt Cheap"??
Me: Yeah. That's the name of the song - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
GF: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - I thought they were saying Dirty Deeds and the Thunder Chief.
Me: Blank stare

My son: Ya know, being gay wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the sex part. Cause, ya know, then it would be just like hanging out with your best buddy all the time and playing video games.
Me: Blank stare

GF: REALLY?!?!?! I didn't know that the songs "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", "Walk This Way" or "You Shook Me All Night Long" had anything to do with sex!!!
Me: Blank stare

As always - they were entertaining.

That's what kids are for. The boy and I provide similar amusement to my parents as we comment on the development of my niece.
The boy: wow babies really are needy.
my mom: umm, yeah? blank stare :P

When I was a kid I thought it was Dirty Deeds and the Dundo Jeep. I always imagined this really gnarly tricked-out Jeep thundering through the woods or something.

Your son's girlfriend is a student at the Scared Heart Convent School for Remarkably Sheltered Girls? Right? (Please...)

Or is she just too young to have really heard those songs since sex has been on her radar?

Let's just say she is innocent beyond her years........makes for lots of great fun for me and my husband!! :)

I just want everyone to know...I had NOTHING to do with my grandson's or his girlfriends music or worldly knowledge. Brittany on the other hand was a different story... : )

Good grief.

Oh yes they are, and it only gets better from there. The older they get, the more entertaining they become.

Jonah was amazed the time that I told him that he didn't really need to go around trying to sing Staind songs because they had f*&k peppered throughout them. I have no idea what he thought they were saying. (I, however, like Staind, listen to Staind, and say f%^k whenever I want to.)
Now, to bring the easier to be gay AND the misheard lyrics thing together.... I used to think Elton John said "Give me piece of mama Daddy never had" instead of "Give me piece of mind my daddy never had." Ya know, I think that counts as incestual too!

That's pretty cute. Every once in a while I hear a song that I remembered as totally different when I was a kid and it cracks me up.
