Check out my nice melons!

Oh come on now, you KNOW I am talking about THESE:

These have magically appeared (well, ok - we planted them but this is the Knit Witch blog so we will feign a little magic here) in our garden. Our garden is kind of doing so-so. Some stuff is doing great and some stuff............ehhhhh.........not so much. Since we moved in right at the beginning of planting season we didn't have time to do what we needed to do to get the garden soil ready and boy does it show. Next year will be much better because we will till in lots of good stuff and our compost pile and get rid of about a gagillion rocks in the garden (seriously, a gagillion is a lot, right?).

We picked all of these off of our amazing blueberry bushes yesterday (new kitchen island counter top added for dramatic effect):

It seems that more blueberry jam is in my future. I don't know if you know much about blueberry bushes or not but by general standards these things are HUGE and we were so excited once we moved in and realized what they were!! The green beans and eggplants are doing good too!

So, with all those yummy fresh veggies I had to make this:

Doesn't that look scrumptious?!?! You should smell my kitchen right now! Seriously, garlic and onions cooking must be the best smell ever. I love making things that don't require recipes - I'm not so good with the recipe thing. I have learned a lot about Italian cooking from my dad and from the restaurants - but, Italian is about the only thing I can cook!

Mmmmm good hearty meal made with freshly picked veggies ... Do I have time to get to your place before supper??? ;)

As for "cooking without recipes", I find that as long as you have an idea in mind (type of the meal, spices, textures) it becomes quite easy afterwords. I also find it helpful to browse through recipes for inspirations.
