Smokey's

Last Friday we took a drive over to Dahlonega and went to the Crimson Moon. Ian's band, Smokey's Farmland Band was playing. They were great! Here are some pictures.

Here is Ian on the guitar.

If you are interested in hearing them, even though the sound quality here isn't great - they sounded much better in person, you can check out the video here.

Dyeing

Apparently Nessie thinks she needs to help with the dyeing process.

Thank goodness the stove wasn't on and there was no dye water in the pots! Can you imagine Nessie as a nice greenish-blue color? This is why I don't let her into the dye studio - she is into everything!!!

Pasta!

My husband couldn't resist this $20 find at the thrift store:

Fun! We wasted no time in trying it out.

Our first batch was too wet and all the noodles ended up sticking together. But we made the second batch a little more dry and the noodles came out great!

It was pretty fast and easy and they tasted really good!

We'll have to try some spinach, tomato and other pasta varieties soon.

Superbowl!

Wow! What a game! I know many of my Pittsburgh friends weren't too happy though. I always enjoy a good Superbowl and a good Superbowl party! If we all have to sit inside, our place isn't really big enough to have a lot of people over. We have LOTS of porch space but that isn't really very much fun when it is 30 degrees outside. We just had a couple of people over to enjoy the game with us.

We have a few things to eat.....................YUM! Wayne made chicken wings but he made some fake chicken wings for those of us who enjoy flesh free food! :) Ever since we have gotten chickens, I feel especially guilty about eating chicken!!! Our girls are too cute to eat!!

Speaking of chickens - here's a couple of pics for ya. They get to come out almost everyday and they just have the best time wandering around the yard.

I think we are going to need to put a 6' fence around our garden this year to keep them out until the plants get big enough for them to go in there for pest control purposes. That will be one of Wayne and Bert's projects early this year. Wayne and Bert have decided to trade off labor with each other so they can both get projects done around the house. ReLeah (Bert's wife) and I love that idea!!

We have snow predicted for tonight and tomorrow. We'll see what happens. Good grief I'm ready for Spring!!!!

Big hooters, small hooters and medium hooters

We saw all kinds of hooters last weekend! Monteen was in downtown Blue Ridge last weekend with 3 of her rescue owls. These are owls that have been rescued that cannot be released back into the wild for various reasons. Usually, they have some type of injury that prevents them from eating, hunting or flying or, before Monteen got them, they were habituated to humans and therefore not eligible for release.

First up is Sam. This is Sam on his 21st birthday! Sam is a Great Horned Owl.

Next, is Nigel. Nigel is a Tawny owl that is native to Africa, not the US.

Finally, is cute little Scully! Scully is a Screech Owl. How cute is he?!?!

Look at the cute birthday cake our neighbor Liz made for Sam's birthday.

Monteen put on a great event for everyone around here and she ended up taking in a good bit in donations for "Mouse Money" so that was great!!!! I hope she will come back again soon because it was really fun to get a chance to see these amazing creatures up close and personal.

Quick Updates

I know it may not seem like it, but we have actually had a lot going on at Knit Witch lately! I will send out a newsletter in a few days but I wanted to give you all a heads up about some things coming up this week.

Club Dragon Witch - if you are in the club, your shipment left out on Friday! You should be getting your packages soon! The next shipment will be in April and will be coming from Kate of Dragonfly Fibers.

Yarn Bowls - I know there are MANY of you out there waiting for bowls! We have managed to get one batch done so they will be going up on the website on FRIDAY FEBRUARY 11th. I can't give you an exact time but it will be in the morning. Probably around 10ish.

YARN! - I know, I know. We just can't seem to keep any yarn stocked on our website lately. BUT, on Friday we are going to put up a batch of yarn! Most of it will be fingering weight SW Merino/Nylon (Celestial Bounce) but we will also have a few skeins of Celestial Cloud (100% SW merino - fingering weight) and we will have a couple of skeins of 50/50 Merino/Suri Alpaca (which I wanted to keep for myself BUT I'm going to put it up on the website since I couldn't decide what to do with it quickly enough!).

The yarn will only be on the website for 72 HOURS. So, if there is something you are interested in, please pick it up before Sunday night. The bowls, will be on the website until they are gone which probably won't be too long I imagine. There are a few fair isle bowls available this time. I think there are only 2 or 3 because we had a few that didn't turn out.

We do have more bowls in progress and will hopefully be able to get another batch up in about 3 weeks (if the weather around here will cooperate!)

See you on the website on Friday morning!!

Google!!

Oh my gosh! Where have we been?!?! I haven't posted since my birthday last Monday!!! We have had a busy week being in Atlanta all week and are about to head home in a little bit (YAY!). We stayed until today because we got invited to this YouTube Partner meeting at the Google offices in Atlanta! There were about 30-40 "Usernames" there and the meeting was to help us optimize our video content and such. It was really interesting and we learned a lot.

I actually came to Atlanta this time with NO CAMERA! I was so disappointed when I thought about going to the Google offices downtown with no camera to take pictures for you all! However, thank goodness for the iphone! I did manage to get a couple of pics for ya.

Welcome to Google Atlanta!

Here's the start of the presentation.

Here's the classroom we were in.

Google is amazing in the way they treat their employees. Look at the employee break room behind us! They have a pool table, ping pong, golf balls to hit around, huge crossword puzzles hanging up to work on - just a lot of stuff to help employees relax and feel good about where they work. I would say that their tactic definitely works!!!

We all got t-shirts so I'll have to get a picture of us in our YouTube t-shirts for you!!

OK - heading back to Blue Ridge. Have a great weekend everyone!!!
